Double-whammy art time! I can’t resist showing, since I’ve noticed a few more unveilings around the internet today. The ever-lovely Julia Rothman invited me into a book coming out soon called The Art of Science (from Chronicle Books!), which is basically a team up between artists and scientists. As a kid (and very much also as an adult) I loved fanciful illustrated science books— the fact that it’s gone out of vogue in favor of realistic rendering or photography really saddens me. So obviously I was thrilled to get to do a page! Double-thrilled when I found out my subject: How we can tell what dinosaurs ate. (Basically by checking stomach contents, comparing tooth shape to modern day analogues, and looking at coprolites— dinosaur feces!)
I went more diagrammatic in the end, but I think it’s fitting. I had fun painting gouache on a stray sheet of acetate and mashing that in with some other stuff. I really need to make time to draw more dinosaurs in the future.

Así fue mi domingo.
